If your goal is to raise a son no woman wants to date, cultural analyst and theologian Anthony B. Bradley has a 10-step plan for you. In a wry piece on his Substack, "How to Raise a Son Who Is Boring and Unattractive to Women," Bradley argues that a key factor in the much-discussed dating woes of Gen Z and Gen Alpha men is simpler than phones, porn, video games, or feminism: Too many young men are just plain dull. He traces that to a middle-class parenting shift, "from raising civic-minded, bourgeois kids, to children characterized by self-preservation, personal comfort, narcissism, personal success, selfish ambition, instant gratification, an eroding self-confidence, identity politics, and individualistic, non-virtue driven self-expression."
Bradley sketches a satirical blueprint for producing these men: Define your son entirely by one activity (e.g., sports, gaming, content creation), strip out music and the arts, make reading only about grades, hand him a smartphone early, shield him from adult conversation, turn service into a checklist, and teach him that "not getting in trouble" equals character. The alternative, he says, is to form men who can talk to anyone about more than their childhood stats. "It should go without saying that your goal here isn't just to make your son more appealing to women," he writes. "You want to raise a man. Form his character. Instill curiosity. Give him courage. Teach him skills that are both marketable and practical. Cultivate his tastes. Help him to build an inner life." Full piece here.
