A pair of jets got a little too close for comfort at Los Angeles International Airport on Tuesday. Delta says one of its Airbus A350-900s, preparing to depart for Tokyo with 275 passengers and 15 crew on board, clipped an Air Canada aircraft with its left wingtip while taxiing, Fox News reports. No injuries were reported, and both airlines are assessing damage and delays. The Air Canada Boeing 777 had just arrived from Toronto, reports CNN.
In audio from ATC.com, the Air Canada pilot asked a ground controller, "We just felt a shudder there. Is everything looking OK?" The Delta pilot told the controller, "It looks like we are having an issue with the wing tip. I don't know if you can see from your position." Delta apologized to passengers, saying safety remains its top priority. The incident is under review. In a statement, airport operator Los Angeles World Airports stressed that the incident happened on a taxiway, not a runway, and said "flights at LAX continue to operate normally," reports NBC Los Angeles.
