A 15-year-old who immigrated from Ghana just a year ago was gunned down on his way to school in the Bronx on Thursday, and police are now searching for three other teenagers. The Guardian reports that officers responding to reports of a shooting near Crotona Park around 9:25am found Javits Frimpong with a gunshot wound to the abdomen. News 12 reports that although Javits was said to be "conscious, alert, and in stable condition," he was pronounced dead later at a local hospital.

Surveillance video seems to show Javits running while someone dressed in black chases him, as well as other masked figures fleeing afterward, per the Guardian. No arrests have been made, and the NYPD hasn't said whether bullying played a role, though Javits' father, Thomas Frimpong, says his son was being harassed at DreamYard preparatory school and that two students were recently suspended for it.

Frimpong tells NBC New York that it was the school's principal who informed him his son had been shot. Ghana's foreign minister and a US-based Ghanaian diaspora group have both vowed to push for justice. "I lost him. I don't know what to do now," Frimpong says, per the Guardian, describing his son as "quiet" and "clever." Anyone with info on the shooting is asked to call 1-800-577-TIPS.
