Despite the unresolved legal battle over his plans, President Trump said Sunday he's closing a historic Washington, DC, golf course next month for construction that will remake the East Potomac Golf Links. "The United States Golf Association, PGA of America, and the PGA Tour have already been notified that they will soon have one of the Best and Most Spectacular Golf Courses anywhere in the World to put on their list of great places to play, and hold Major Events," he posted. Trump's Truth Social post was accompanied by a sketch of a new course to be built on the site, the Wall Street Journal reports. The closure is projected to last 15 months, he said.

A judge ordered a halt to the redevelopment until at least Oct. 26 after scolding the government for starting a large-scale tree removal at the course over a holiday weekend, per the AP, while providing little notice to the court or the plaintiffs trying to stop the makeover. Trump did not acknowledge the legal battle in his post, per CBS News. The ruling came in a case brought by the DC Preservation League, which said Sunday it will carry on its effort to protect the course from "unlawful and harmful intrusion," per the Journal. Trump said the new plan was developed by course architect Tom Fazio and the Interior Department, per the Washington Post.
