One of CNN's most familiar faces is walking away after more than four decades. Christiane Amanpour said Monday she will leave the network in June, ending a 43-year run that began with an entry-level job on the foreign desk and evolved into global war coverage and a signature international affairs show, reports Variety. "After many months of thought and a few sleepless nights, I have decided to separate from CNN," the 68-year-old said in a statement. She added that she'll "always be rooting for CNN" and signed off with her mantra: "Always be truthful, not neutral."
Amanpour will wrap her daily shows on CNN International and PBS by year's end, then keep a weekly CNN program through May to ease the transition. She also plans to continue her independent podcast Ex-Files. The Hollywood Reporter notes that the announcement comes on the heels of the purchase of CNN parent Warner Bros. Discovery by Skydance, though it's not clear if that played any role in the decision.
