Neil Young is once again taking President Trump to court over "Rockin' in the Free World." The musician filed a $10 million lawsuit Monday against the Trump 47 Committee Inc, accusing the president's political operation of repeatedly using the 1989 track at recent midterm rallies without permission, reports the Guardian. Trump is not named personally in the lawsuit, notes Rolling Stone, though it contends that he was "personally aware that a license would be required" and refused. Young previously sued a Trump campaign entity in 2020, a case he says ended with a pledge that Trump "would never again use 'Rockin' in the Free World' without a license and permission from Young."
In the new complaint, filed in federal court in Virginia, Young argues that the continued use implies he supports Trump, which he says harms his reputation and brand. The filing describes the song as a harsh critique of political rhetoric and poverty that is "the opposite of everything that Donald J Trump stands for." Young is also seeking an injunction to block future use.
