Kids selling lemonade in South Boston got a crash course in crime—and community response. Police say a 14-year-old boy has been arrested and another suspect, believed to be age 11, is still being sought after an armed robbery at the children's sidewalk stand on Wednesday. The two alleged robbers repeatedly passed by the stand before asking if the kids took Apple Pay, then grabbed a cash box with about $50 and displayed a gun before running off, reports USA Today.
David Byrne, the 12-year-old boy running the stand with his 11-year-old sister, Juliette, reportedly told the suspect, "You can have it," as his sister raised her hands. "I just was like a little annoyed," David told CBS News, adding kids their age shouldn't be dealing with guns. The stand reopened the next day, drawing a visit from Boston Mayor Michelle Wu and other supporters. A portion of the proceeds is now headed to a local gun violence prevention group. The 14-year-old, arrested Friday after police released photos of two figures with black face coverings and a pink cash box, faces juvenile charges including armed robbery and illegal gun possession, per Fox News.
