A Wimbledon champ's tennis career is on ice for the next four years. Marketa Vondrousova was suspended for four years on Monday because she refused a doping test in 2025, reports Reuters. The 26-year-old Czech, who conquered Wimbledon in 2023 and was once ranked No. 6 in the world, won't be able to compete again until June 21, 2030. She received the maximum penalty allowed for her offense: refusing to provide a sample for an out-of-competition test at her home on Dec. 3, per the Athletic.

Vondrousova later told a hearing that stress, mental health struggles, and safety concerns influenced her decision not to comply around 8 that night, but an independent tribunal found there was "no compelling justification" for her refusal. Her lawyer, Jan Exner, said they will review the written decision before deciding whether to challenge the sanction by the International Tennis Integrity Agency. Vondrousova has not played since withdrawing from Australia's Adelaide International in January with a shoulder injury.
