Weeks After Family Shooting, NFL's Bieniemy Returns

Eric Bieniemy is back on the Kansas City Chiefs' practice field less than three weeks after a shooting at his family's Virginia home left his wife, Mia, hospitalized. "It's great to be back," the offensive coordinator told fans Monday as he walked onto the field, reports Reuters. "I was talking to him several times a day," said head coach Andy Reid, per the AP. "I knew when he was coming back. The primary thing is that Mia is stable, that she's doing well." The Bieniemys' 27-year-old son, Elijah, has been charged with shooting his mother, though his court appearances have been delayed pending a mental health evaluation.

Even while away, general manager Brett Veach said Bieniemy stayed plugged in, watching practice livestreams and once phoning in instructions mid-session. A two-time Super Bowl winner with Kansas City as offensive coordinator, Bieniemy returned to the Chiefs this offseason after stops with Washington, UCLA, and Chicago.
