Man Survives a 120-Foot Fall in Glacier National Park

Visitors at Glacier National Park watched a family trip turn into a near-fatal fall when a 60-year-old man plunged an estimated 120 feet from an overlook at McDonald Falls into Upper McDonald Creek. The tourist, identified by NonStop Local as Ken Nurse, was found face down in the water on Aug. 13 by a bystander who waded in, dragged him to a shallow spot, and performed CPR until he started breathing again, park officials said.

Rangers and rescue crews then arrived and ultimately hoisted the injured man from the slippery creek bed to a medical helicopter, per SFGate. "The guy that made the decision to jump in the water and save the guy," says Rob Cherot, a helicopter pilot for Two Bear Air Rescue. "That's the hero." Nurse was flown to a Kalispell hospital with multiple broken ribs, a severe elbow fracture, and lung complications. "I should not be here right now," he later told NonStop Local. "I owe everyone my life and I want that to be known."
