Army Corps Charter Plane Crash in Alaska Kills All Aboard

Eight people are dead after a chartered plane linked to a US military project crashed near a remote radar site in western Alaska on Thursday. The twin-engine Cessna, operated by Security Aviation and hired by the US Army Corps of Engineers, went down on land near the Cape Newenham Long Range Radar Site, roughly 450 miles west of Anchorage, officials said. Two pilots and six passengers were on board, including two Army Corps employees, reports KTUU.

Search and rescue teams from multiple agencies, including the NTSB, Alaska State Troopers, and Alaska Air National Guard, responded and the incident remains under investigation. Lt. Gen. Robert Davis called it a "devastating loss for our military family," and described those on board as "dedicated professionals carrying out a vital mission in a demanding environment," per the AP. Sen. Lisa Murkowski and Rep. Nick Begich both issued statements offering support to those affected and to Security Aviation.
