Perez Hilton's family says the celebrity blogger is now clearheaded after an apparent self-harming incident earlier this month. His brother-in-law, Tom, told The Perez Hilton Podcast With Chris Booker that the 48-year-old is "lucid" following an Aug. 4 Tiktok livestream where Hilton repeatedly injured himself with sharp objects and voiced suicidal thoughts, prompting a police response and a 72-hour hold under Florida's Baker Act, per the Los Angeles Times. Born Mario Lavandeira, the blogger is now expected to enter a facility focused on mental health, and Tom warned, "I don't think you're going to see him pop up in a few days."
Tom, who is married to Hilton's youngest sister, said Hilton suffered broken bones due to "a couple of falls" during the incident. The blogger, still dealing with fallout from a severe sepsis hospitalization in March, was also treated for an overdose, People reports. Hilton's mother has temporarily taken custody of his three children, with Hilton granted supervised visitation, though children are not permitted in his hospital ward. The family is still trying to understand what led to the crisis. Tom said Hilton had recently relocated to Miami, where he grew up and has a solid support system, but almost immediately regretted it. Still, "what caused this mental break … hasn't been discovered," he said. "I don't know if it will ever be."
