One of No Doubt's founding-era members will hit the Las Vegas Sphere stage next month while managing a serious diagnosis, Rolling Stone reports. Guitarist Tom Dumont announced in a social media video Saturday that he has early onset Parkinson's disease, saying he first sought medical help "a number of years ago" after noticing symptoms, and ultimately underwent tests with a neurologist to confirm the diagnosis. "It's been a struggle, it's a struggle every day," said Dumont, who joined the band in 1988. Parkinson's, a movement disorder of the nervous system, causes symptoms including tremors, stiffness, and balance issues that get worse over time, People reports.
Even so, Dumont said he'll be on hand when No Doubt's residency at the high-tech venue kicks off May 6. "The good news is I can still play music, I can still play guitar. I've been doing really well," he said, adding that speaking publicly about his condition is his way of helping reduce stigma and boost awareness and research. He plans to share more details in a follow-up video. Bandmates quickly voiced support in the comments: drummer Adrian Young called Dumont his "friend, bandmate, and hero," while bassist Tony Kanal wrote that he "can't wait to get on stage" with him again.
No Doubt, which reunited recently, will be at the Sphere until June 13. Singer Gwen Stefani will be the first woman to headline there, NBC News reports. The venue opened in 2023.
