A long-lost chapter in Chrissy Amphlett's career is about to get its first public airing. Three tracks the Divinyls singer recorded with Split Enz's Tim Finn in 1998 were recently unearthed on a two-inch tape sitting in Finn's garage and will be released Friday as an EP titled Some Times, per the BBC. Finn says he approached the "I Touch Myself" singer as a fan, and the pair quickly clicked in the studio, joined by drummer Charley Drayton, who married Amphlett a short time later.
"I was in the presence of great talent," Finn tells ABC Australia, noting that he took the demo home with plans to work on it, but "we just moved on, and we never saw each other again." Finn assumed the tape was lost until a 2023 inquiry from Drayton prompted him to go searching. He says the rediscovered material is "a treasure" for those who knew Amphlett and a chance to hear her in a new musical phase. Drayton describes the release as a kind of closure following Amphlett's 2013 death at age 53: "She had a lot more to do, a lot more to say."
