At Graduation, One of Angelina's Kids Drops the 'Pitt'

Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt's eldest daughter used her college graduation to quietly signal a name change. When 21-year-old Zahara accepted her psychology degree at Spelman College's commencement in Atlanta on Sunday, her name was announced as "Zahara Marley Jolie," dropping Pitt's surname, despite the written program still listing "Jolie-Pitt."

People reports it's not the first time she's gone by only her mother's last name. She introduced herself as Zahara Marley Jolie when she joined Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority in November 2023 and did the same at an April mother-daughter charity brunch, where she spoke about her bond with Jolie, calling their connection "found" and describing her mother as "the most selfless, loving, and understanding woman." Jolie has publicly praised Zahara as an "extraordinary African woman" whose relationship to her heritage is her own.

Zahara is one of six children Jolie and her ex-husband share, along with Maddox, Pax, Shiloh, and twins Vivienne and Knox. In 2024, Shiloh legally dropped the "Pitt" from her own name. People reported in February that Maddox used the name Maddox Jolie, also minus the Pitt, in the credits of Couture, an upcoming film starring Angelina Jolie that he served as an assistant director on. Vivienne similarly went by Vivienne Jolie in the May 2024 Playbill for The Outsiders, which Vivienne helped Angelina produce.
