A rare school shooting in the Philippines has left a city reeling. Police say two boys, ages 14 and 15, walked into a classroom at San Jose National High School in Tacloban City on Monday morning and "without saying anything, they started firing," killing three students and injuring seven others. By afternoon, both suspects had been arrested. Authorities say a 9mm pistol used in the shooting was allegedly owned by one of the suspect's relatives, a policewoman who is now in custody; the other weapon used was a .38 revolver.
The AP reports regional police chief Brig. Gen. Jason Capoy described the suspects as close friends and said most of the victims were females. Investigators say a "grudge" over "school bullying" appears to be the motive and say they found social media videos of one boy firing a gun, which Colonel Allen Rae Co describes as "very obviously red flags." School shootings are highly uncommon in the country, and the BBC reports it's the first in the city of 250,000 in recent memory.
