A quiet neighborhood in St. Augustine, Florida, turned into a crime scene over the weekend, with a 91-year-old resident accused of killing his wife. The St. Johns County Sheriff's Office said Monday that William Lippold has been charged with premeditated first-degree murder with a firearm in the death of his 87-year-old wife at their home on Como Court in the St. Augustine Shores neighborhood. A neighbor tells News4Jax the couple was "really nice" but "frail," saying the woman was blind and may have been living with Alzheimer's disease.
Another describes the scene on Saturday morning to Action News Jax: "I look out and there are police cars and police with assault rifles aimed at this house over here. I know it to be a very elderly man and his wife, and I'm thinking, why would they be showing up here like SWAT team-style, ready to invade the place?" Authorities have not shared a possible motive.
