Golfer's Faked Hole-in-One Doesn't Go Well

A Missouri golfer just learned the hard way that faking perfection comes with real-world fallout. As ESPN reports, former college player Zach Holland has resigned from WingHaven Country Club after admitting he staged a hole-in-one during a member tournament by secretly placing a ball in the cup, then claiming he'd aced the par-3 after skipping ahead on the course. "There's no excuse for what I did," Holland told a St. Louis ESPN radio show, calling it "complete stupidity." Security footage exposed the deception, notes People, and the club says the matter is closed. Holland, who says his family has since received online threats, now worries less about his reputation than theirs: "It's not fair to them … when they walk through a room, there is a stigma there that your dad is a cheater."
