Three civilian Secret Service employees are off the job as the agency investigates potential misconduct, a spokesperson confirmed Tuesday. The internal probe is being run by the Office of Professional Responsibility, but officials have not disclosed what the three non-law-enforcement staffers are accused of or how the matter surfaced, the Hill reports. A source tells CNN that one of the suspended employees is Anthony Gugliemi, the agency's chief of communications. The other two staffers also work in the communications office, the source says.
In a statement, the agency said it remains committed to "the highest standards of professionalism and integrity" as it carries out its "zero-fail mission" to protect the president and other senior officials. According to CNN's source, all three staffers have lost their security clearances and access to their work devices, as is standard during internal investigations.
The suspensions come on the heels of another case last month, when an agent on Vice President JD Vance's detail was sidelined over allegations of leaking sensitive information, amid broader grumbling inside the service about Vance's abrupt travel demands. The agency has faced heightened scrutiny this year after multiple alleged assassination plots targeting President Trump, including an attempted attack near the White House Correspondents' Association dinner, and a secret plane swap in Turkey during an Iranian threat that left some staff and reporters temporarily in the dark about the president's movements.
