Couple Accused of Looting Home of Victims Killed in Crash

News of a fatal crash was barely public when the Florida home of two victims was allegedly cleaned out, police say. Authorities on Tuesday arrested 40-year-old Geybert Alexander Garcia and 24-year-old Melany Perdomo, accusing them of burglarizing the Coral Gables residence of Adam Hlavaty and Henry Parra after the couple died in a Wednesday helicopter crash in Kenya, per NBC Miami. The house, broken into sometime between Thursday and Saturday, was found ransacked, with jewelry, electronics, documents, artwork, and two luxury vehicles—a Range Rover and Porsche Taycan—reported stolen, according to arrest reports.

Detectives say they traced a stolen MacBook to a Hialeah address, where a search warrant turned up the Range Rover's key fob, numerous documents belonging to the couple, and artwork including a sculpture valued at more than $500,000. Garcia allegedly tried to hide in a closet before being taken into custody, per the Miami Herald; Perdomo was found upstairs. In court, Garcia's attorney produced a notarized document purportedly granting him access to the home and vehicles, which both a detective and a friend of the victims called fake. Judge Mindy Glazer voiced strong skepticism, later ordering Garcia—who reportedly has prior felony convictions for burglary and dealing in stolen property—held without bond. Perdomo remains jailed on an immigration hold.
