If you like your cities on the smaller side, one Boston suburb just nabbed the crown. A new WalletHub analysis of more than 1,300 US cities with 25,000 to 100,000 residents ranks Lexington, Massachusetts, as the nation's top small city to call home. Researchers crunched 45 measures of livability, from housing costs and school quality to restaurant density and crime. Lexington stood out for safety—its property crime rate is fourth-lowest and its violent crime rate 21st-lowest in the study—and for residents' financial health, with a median household income topping $238,000 and a median credit score of 783. It also benefits from Massachusetts' highly rated public schools and strong health metrics, including one of the highest rates of health insurance coverage and a relatively low share of adults in poor health.
