Things took a dark, Halloween-themed turn at an Austin coffee shop on Wednesday night. According to Austin police, 20-year-old Shankar Temple Grace, dressed up as a zombie, complete with face makeup, before stabbing two people at the Buzz Mill just ahead of a comedy performance, reports Fox News. One victim suffered life-threatening injuries, though both victims are now said to be in stable condition at a local hospital. Authorities say Grace raced away from the scene in a pickup, then crashed into an empty autonomous vehicle before escaping on foot, per KEYE.
Officers found the suspect about 3 miles away on a walking trail and took him into custody, per Fox. Grace, who witnesses say had previously caused a disturbance at the bar, is being held in Travis County Jail on two counts of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, a second-degree felony. A regular at the Buzz Mill tells FOX 7 that he doesn't want the crime there to keep people away. "There's always going to be bad people, right?" says Joe Blackman. "But that can't stop us going about our daily lives and having fun."
