Sens Suffer First Loss of Season

Despite third period heroics in which Mike Fisher and Joe Corvo scored twice in less than two minutes, Ottawa nonetheless lost 5-3 to the Carolina Hurricanes last night, ending their season opening winning streak, the Ottawa Sun reports.The Senators' record is now an impressive 5-1. The 'Canes hit hard and early, and led 4-1 going into the third.

 Asked about the toll of playing back-to-back games preceding the loss, Senators coach John Paddock replied "We were not a tired hockey club when we were winning games...If you're tired, play smart. We didn't do that at all." The loss not only ended the team's win streak, but was goaltender Martin Gerber's first defeat in regulation since last December 10th.
