Teacher Accused of Sex With Student After Phone Trace

Parents who tracked their teenager's phone to an unfamiliar house ended up triggering a criminal case against his math teacher, authorities in Florida say. Brevard County deputies arrested 37-year-old Kirsten Rose, a Cocoa Beach Jr./Sr. High School teacher, accusing her of having a sexual relationship with a male student, per Fox News. The investigation began in March after the student's parents, suspicious about his late nights and vague explanations, used location services to find him at a home they didn't recognize. The teen first claimed he had been with a girlfriend, then allegedly admitted he was involved with his teacher.

Detectives say Rose and the student began privately messaging on Instagram in November and that the relationship became sexual in February, continuing into March. Arrested Friday on five counts of unlawful sexual activity with a minor, plus lewd and indecent exposure charges involving a student by an authority figure, Rose's bond was set at $300,000 before her release on Saturday, per Florida Today. The sheriff's office says the investigation is ongoing and is asking anyone with additional information to contact its Special Victims Unit. In a statement, the school principal said Rose was on administrative leave.
