George Santos didn't just dispute NPR's reporting on him—journalist Bobby Allyn says he delivered a jarring threat over the phone. "This story is going to get you a gun in your face," Allyn recounts Santos as telling him in a first-person piece at NPR. The alleged threat came after Allyn reported that federal regulators were investigating the expelled congressman over fishy activity on the Kalshi prediction platform. Santos, who has a documented history of prolific and imaginative lies, denies any such fishy activity, denies that an investigation is underway, and denies making the gun comment to Allyn.

In a social media post, Santos writes that "not once was I ever threatening or aggressive… sassy? Sure but aggressive and threatening? NEVER!" Allyn, for his part, writes that he found the gun comment "more bizarre than threatening," as he recounts in detail the phone call and a subsequent conversation. After the original NPR story broke, multiple outlets, including the AP and Reuters, have also reported that an investigation is underway. Another prediction platform, Polymarket, has severed its paid relationship with Santos.
