Christopher Michael Veit, 53.   (Monroe County Sheriff's Office)

A Florida Keys man bound and locked a teenage girl in a clothes dryer after she tried to leave his home, deputies say. The Monroe County Sheriff's Office says the out-of-county teen who'd been sexually abused called 911 on Sunday, reporting she was being held against her will in a Key Largo residence, per CBS News. Responding deputies say they found her inside the dryer around 11:45am. The Miami Herald describes her as "bound and locked in." The 53-year-old man, identified as Christopher Michael Veit, allegedly restrained her, confiscated her phone, and had been engaged in ongoing sexual activity with her, according to detectives.

Investigators also reported finding counterfeit money at the scene, prompting a notification to the Secret Service. The teen was checked over at a hospital, then placed in the custody of a relative. Veit, held on a $650,000 bond, faces charges including sexual battery on a victim 16 or 17, kidnapping, and interfering with custody of a minor, the Herald reports. Authorities say the probe is continuing and additional charges are possible.
