Danny Glover is publicly naming the disease that's been reshaping his life for years. In a pair of interviews for TODAY and People, the 79-year-old revealed that he has been living with Alzheimer's; he was diagnosed in 2023. His daughter, Mandisa, tells TODAY that going public is about honesty and having "control of his own narrative. ... What better time but now for him to speak for himself?" In comments to People she adds, "I think he's aware sometimes and then sometimes not." The magazine observes that "her words prove true throughout his interview, during which Glover ... often toggl[es] between unfinished thoughts and poetic personal tangents."
Glover, whose movements, speech, and memory have slowed, remains active in San Francisco and is partnering with the Alzheimer's Association, which stresses early detection and lifestyle steps like staying active and socially connected. The Lethal Weapon star, with more than 170 roles to his name, says he knows that "as it advances, things are going to be different and changing." Glover adds of his diagnosis: "I'm still not accepting in my mind all parts of it. There are the moments that you keep remembering that validate the fact that you can remember stuff. And there are moments I'll never forget."
