Tom Cruise is physically transformed for his next major film, and not in a Mission Impossible kind of way. Warner Bros. on Monday released the trailer for Digger, and it shows Cruise as a pot-bellied Southern oil baron, reports Deadline. "I have never had something that could challenge me in this way, and neither has Alejandro," Cruise said, per Variety, referring to two-time Oscar-winning director Alejandro Gonzalez Inarritu (Birdman and The Revenant).
The premise of the dark comedy is that Cruise's Digger Rockwell unleashes an environmental catastrophe and then is tasked by the president (John Goodman) to fix it. The film has definite "Dr. Strangelove vibes," notes Ars Technica. Digger is scheduled to arrive in theaters on Oct. 2.
