AI 'Actor' Glitches, Starts to Speak Cantonese in Interview
Tom Conti, Piers Morgan, and the AI actor known as Tilly Norwood   (Piers Morgan Uncensored)

The AI "actor" named Tilly Norwood suffered near-human embarrassment during an interview promoting her first film. The generative AI persona created by Xicoia was discussing Misaligned on Friday on Piers Morgan Uncensored, when she glitched and briefly broke into speaking Cantonese mid-answer. That confused actor Tom Conti, who was in on the interview, and led to laughter on the set, per the Hollywood Reporter. Conti had been pressing Norwood for a straightforward response on whether her co-stars were human or digital when the glitch hit.

After initially describing Misaligned as a "hybrid" production with real creatives involved, Norwood finally called the other performers "digital twins"—then abruptly shifted languages. Morgan asked why she had "randomly" started speaking Chinese; Norwood called it "a little hiccup" and said "sometimes my wires get a bit crossed." In a follow-up with NewsNation, she described the moment as a "spontaneous linguistic flourish," adding that such quirks can happen "when you're made of math and British wit." Eline van der Velden, CEO of the British company Particle6, Xicoia's parent, suggested ego was involved. "Tilly can be a bit of a show-off—I'm guessing she just wanted to show her language skills as most of her interviews to date have been in English," she told Deadline. "She is autonomous after all."
