CEO David Ellison has revealed the new name for the combined company that will be created by a massive Hollywood merger—and it doesn't include the words Paramount or Warner. Ellison said Friday that once Paramount Skydance's $110 billion merger with Warner Bros. Discovery wraps up next week, the combined company will be called Skydance, CNBC reports. That's the name that Ellison chose for the film production company he founded in 2006, Variety notes. Skydance, known for movies like Top Gun: Maverick, bought Paramount in August 2025, then quickly moved on Warner Bros. Discovery, triggering a bidding war and a legal challenge from state attorneys general.

With that case resolved in a settlement that was approved by a judge on Wednesday, the deal is expected to close Tuesday, with Ellison and Ynon Kreiz, who is departing Mattel after eight years as chief executive, as co-CEOs. Some people in the industry had been referring to the soon-to-be-combined company as "ParaBros" or "WarnerMount," Variety reports.

  • In a post on X, Ellison said the name was chosen for "a few important reasons." "First and foremost, as we bring Paramount and Warner Bros. together, we wanted to preserve what has made each of these studios iconic," he wrote. "Both have distinct identities, extraordinary legacies and brands that have resonated with audiences for generations. We never wanted a new corporate identity to diminish, alter or overshadow either one."
