The mother of the teen accused of Thursday's fatal school shooting in Bend, Oregon, tells CNN that he was a "good boy." The outlet does not identify the woman, but says she was sitting on her balcony crying when she spoke. "I miss my boy. I'm so sorry," she said when asked about her son. "I'm so sorry, I wish I could have done something. I'm sorry for their loss," she said, referring to the families of the three children and one teacher killed at Silver Rail Elementary.
Police have identified the shooter as a 16-year-old, and multiple outlets have identified him as John J. Griffin of Bend. The gunman entered the school on Thursday and opened fire in a special-needs classroom before being fatally shot himself by a bystander identified as 36-year-old Kaylub Giamanco. Giamanco is the father of two girls who attend the school. NBC News reports that the shooter used a pump-action shotgun, which he received as a gift from his mother on his 16th birthday in August. It was not immediately clear if the shooter had a connection to the school.
