Justin Trudeau is catching flak at home for choosing "boyfriend duties" over national pride. The former Canadian prime minister skipped Canada's opening World Cup match in Toronto on Friday, reports the BBC, opting instead to watch the US-Paraguay game in Los Angeles, where girlfriend Katy Perry performed. "Sometimes supportive boyfriend duties call. But you know who I'm rooting for to take the Cup," he posted, adding a Canadian flag emoji. Cameras showed the pair kissing, drinking beer, and cozying up in the stands, clips that helped ignite backlash online, with some Canadians labeling him a "traitor" and calling the move "a slap in the face." Trudeau missed Canada's 1-1 draw with Bosnia and Herzegovina; the US match, which the hosts won 4-1, kicked off six hours later, notes the AP.
