A remote Swedish farm has become the focus of a major sex-crimes case that just ended with a prison term for the husband and convictions for dozens of other men. The BBC reports that a 61-year-old man from Angermanland was sentenced on Tuesday to four years and five months behind bars for forcing his wife to have sex with more than 120 men, using threats, surveillance cameras, and drugs to control her, according to the Harnosand court. He was found guilty of attempted rape, aggravated pimping, assault, and unlawful threats and ordered to pay her about $21,000.
The court said the man "ruthlessly exploited" his spouse starting in 2022, rejecting his claim that the encounters were consensual and noting he'd "influenced and induced his wife to perform sexual acts on herself, broadcast them online, receive additional sex buyers, and try to get neighbors and customers to have sex with her." Some of this pressure, per the court, included "prolonged nagging and ... unpleasant and condescending language." Per the South China Morning Post, charges against the man noted that he'd threatened to unleash "the monster" if she didn't succumb to his wishes.
WION reports that the man had treated farming out his wife's sexual services "as a business." The man has been in custody since October, when his wife reported him to local authorities, per the AP. Of roughly 120 identified sex buyers, 29 were charged and 28 convicted of purchasing sexual services; two received prison sentences, with the rest given suspended terms or probation, per the BBC. The case has drawn comparisons to that of France's Gisele Pelicot, whose husband was found to have drugged her and invited other men to have sex with her while she was unconscious, for close to a decade.
