Ryan Gosling Has Been 'Haunted' by This Film Poster, Till Now

Ryan Gosling's long-standing gripe with his La La Land poster pose has finally been reframed. Lionsgate has unveiled a new poster for the film's 10th anniversary that corrects the now-infamous "La La hand" that Gosling says has "haunted" him for years, per The Hollywood Reporter. The original 2016 poster showed Gosling and Emma Stone mid-dance against the Los Angeles skyline, arms raised—except Gosling's hand was oddly flat, a choice he has since joked "killed the energy."

"Even though everyone told me it wasn't cool, I was sure it was cooler," Gosling says of his choice to flatten his hand, instead of pointing it straight up like Stone. "Now when I look at it, and I have to see it all the time, you know what would've been cooler ... [the correct pose]." In a 2024 interview, Gosling used a term from the dance arena and referred to himself as "Hamburger hands Gosling," per the New York Times.

Earlier this year, Gosling mocked the pose in a promo video, finally "fixing" his hand on camera, per THR. The refreshed artwork (Deadline juxtposes the new pose with the old one) lands ahead of the Oscar-winning musical's return to theaters on Aug. 16 in Dolby Cinema at AMC locations, and as a Broadway adaptation moves forward. The official X account for the film calls the tweak "a minor adjustment."
