Rebel Wilson Wins Defamation Case Involving Her Co-Star

Rebel Wilson just won a courtroom fight with an actress from her own film. A Sydney judge on Wednesday threw out a defamation case brought by Charlotte MacInnes, who claimed Wilson damaged her reputation in Instagram posts about a 2023 incident involving a bath at a producer's apartment. Wilson had said MacInnes withdrew a sexual-harassment complaint against producer Amanda Ghost to advance her career—an allegation MacInnes denied. MacInnes played the lead in Wilson's directorial debut, The Deb, reports the Australian AP.

Justice Elizabeth Raper ruled that suggesting MacInnes changed her account wasn't defamatory and ordered her to cover Wilson's legal costs, reports the BBC. "To say that the circumstance surrounding how they came to be in the bath are unusual would be an understatement," Raper said when announcing her decision; MacInnes and Ghost shared a warm bath in swimsuits after Ghost suffered an allergic reaction to cold water during a swim at Bondi Beach. "MacInnes changed her story about feeling uncomfortable about what happened in the bathroom," the judge ruled, per Deadline, making Wilson's four Instagram posts on the topic not defamatory.

Wilson, posting soon after the decision, said the legal process "tested" her but reinforced her desire to stand up for what she believes is right. Deadline reports MacInnes intends to appeal. Read more on the case here.
