Duncan Sheik's family says the 56-year-old Tony-winning composer and singer is in a hospital in "critical but stable condition," with no details offered on what put him there, reports Deadline. The update, posted to Sheik's Instagram account on Wednesday, adds that no further medical information will be released "out of respect for Duncan and our family" and asks for privacy while promising future updates "when appropriate."
The "Barely Breathing" artist and co-creator of the Spring Awakening musical had recently hinted at a hospital stay on Instagram, calling it "boring" but a time for reflection in mid-August, then writing on Sept. 7 that he expected to leave "in 60 hours" (after posting the day before that he was in the hospital). Sheik's condition now clouds two upcoming off-Broadway projects: a new production of Spring Awakening set for November and his musical adaptation Memoirs of Amorous Gentlemen, due to begin performances later this month.
