Authorities don't suspect foul play in the unexpected death of 27-year-old Presley Gerber—son of supermodel Cindy Crawford. Instead, police in Santa Monica say they are investigating the case as a suspected overdose, reports NBC News. Gerber was pronounced dead at 9:45am Sunday at a high-end rehab facility, reports People and USA Today. Officers responding to a call about 9:35am attempted life-saving measures, to no avail, reports TMZ. An autopsy is still pending.

Gerber was the only son of Crawford and hospitality entrepreneur Rande Gerber, and brother to model Kaia Gerber. He had followed his mother and sister into the modeling business at age 15, but began struggling with substance abuse and mental health issues around the same time, reports Page Six. He had spoken openly about his problems in recent years. "Having struggled with mental health, depression and some other things that come along with that, I think that whether I help one person or a hundred people get out of that place that I was in at one point in my life, that's all I need to do," he said on a 2023 podcast.

Earlier this year, Gerber shared a post on Instagram about undergoing addiction treatment, adding that he was "praying it's the last time I have to come back." Gerber wrote about undergoing treatment with ibogaine, which USA Today notes is a "Schedule I controlled psychoactive substance used to treat mental health problems and substance use disorders, but it is not classified as a legal treatment in the United States and is banned in some countries due to its high risk for misuse." WebMD has more details on it.
