Neil Henderson, who helped shape the earliest sounds of the Bay City Rollers, has died at 73. His death was announced by his later band, Middle of the Road, which called him their "original lead guitarist, songwriter, and friend" and said he'd been struggling to recover from a stroke a few years back. Henderson, who some say was the "hidden hero" of the Bay City Rollers, played with the group from 1970 to 1972, performing on their debut single "Keep On Dancing" before leaving over creative differences.
Henderson exited just ahead of the band's surge to global fame, per the Sun. The Glasgow-born musician then joined Middle of the Road, a Scottish group known for its 1971 hit "Chirpy Chirpy Cheep Cheep." The group offered condolences to Henderson's two daughters and said that his music and presence onstage would be long remembered.
