Reality TV viewers who watched Jon and Kate Gosselin's brood grow up are about to get a first-person account from one of the sextuplets, People reports. Collin Gosselin, now 22, announced on Instagram that he's written a memoir, In the Shadow of Eight: Surviving the Reality of My Childhood, slated for release Oct. 13. The cover features a childhood photo of Collin with his mother during the height of Jon & Kate Plus 8, and the book promises to revisit what he calls some of the toughest periods of his life in front of—and away from—the cameras. A description of the book shared by Page Six notes that it will include details about "being held down, the basement cell where he was hidden for years, and the cocktail of powerful antipsychotics forced on an 11-year-old boy."

Collin wrote that he spent years keeping silent, citing fear, doubts that he'd be believed, and not feeling ready. "Growing up, millions of people watched my life on television … But there was so much they never saw," he said, adding that writing the book finally gave him "my voice." Collin, who along with his five sextuplet siblings also has older twin sisters, was sent to a behavioral health institution in 2016 by his mom after his parents' 2009 divorce. He later moved in with his father, who gained custody; Us Weekly reports he has accused his mother of abuse in the past, and is currently estranged from her. He has also spoken about feeling "forced apart" from his siblings. The memoir is available for preorder.
