A viral video of a Knicks fan walking off with a team-branded trash can has now seemingly cost a JPMorgan Chase executive her job. Footage showed a woman dumping the contents of a special blue-and-orange city trash bin onto a Manhattan sidewalk during the Knicks championship parade, then taking the can and later riding the subway with it, per the New York Post. Reaction to the clips ranged from amusement to indignation, per the Toronto Sun. "She needs to go on trash detail for the next five years," one disgusted commenter noted.
The woman has been IDed by the Post as Angie Baez. "This employee is no longer with the company," a JPMorgan spokesperson told the paper of Baez, though they didn't note she'd been fired or that her departure was tied to the trash can theft. Baez had been an executive director in community and industry engagement for the bank's card division, per her LinkedIn profile, and previously held diversity, equity, and inclusion roles at the Infatuation, Squarespace and Saks Fifth Avenue.
Baez is also listed as co-founder of Same Page Co., a queer and BIPOC-owned talent agency. New York City sanitation officials called the behavior illegal and "antisocial," noting that both littering and theft are against the law; thefts under $1,000 in the city are typically treated as misdemeanors. However, the NYPD says no complaint has been filed and Baez hasn't been charged. She couldn't be reached for comment.
